When I was a kid, I loved a kit. There was something about the word “kit” that got me really excited. There always seemed to be some sort of kit in the Scholastic Book sale made up of either books or journals and pens. In all honestly, as an adult, I still love a kit. These days it is more likely made up of skincare and makeup, or a bundle of planner, pens, and highlighters. It’s something about the combination of a group of things for a specific purpose all in one container and usually at a discounted price that makes me feel like I’m really getting something great at a good deal.
As we enter into what feels like day 5,002 of the shelter at home/quarantine order, I realized that I have subconsciously put together a kit of things that are bringing me life and sustaining me through these “unprecedented times” (which, after this passes, is a phrase I never want to hear again). Here’s currently what’s in my Quarantine Survival Thrivival Kit:
Netflix – This one is a given. I don’t know anyone who isn’t guiltlessly giving in to a little Netflix these days. Shows that I am watching or have watched over the past few weeks are Tiger King 🐯👑 (of course!), Ozark (how could I have slept on this one for so long!) and Hart of Dixie. Though not Netflix, I’m loving Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. Also, HBO is currently offering free access to several of its shows, as are some other cable networks.
Movement – I was a regular exerciser before the stay at home order and I knew I needed to make it even more of a priority during this time. My normal exercise options weren’t as appealing anymore so I had to find something new to keep me excited about working out. Enter Erin Oprea’s Pretty Muscles app. I’m a longtime fan of Erin and have had the opportunity to work out with her live a couple of times. Let me tell you the workouts in her app are just as challenging as a live workout. She mixes it up every day and has super fun workout music. Even without a bike or tread, I’m still using the Peloton app on my phone. This app has programs for strength training and yoga, as well as outdoor walks and runs. And right now you can get free access for a limited time!
Athleisure – I have discovered I can be productive in yoga pants, so it’s going to be hard to go back to real pants after all of this. I took advantage of having my friend Tammy do some virtual personal shopping for me at Fleet Feet and she did not disappoint! I told her what I needed and what size and she pulled together a bag full of great options for me. She sent me pics and videos while she shopped so I could weigh in on what I liked. Then she dropped off my loot at my front door. I tried it all on and let her know what I wanted to keep – at a discount! The results are some new pieces I needed (and a couple that I just liked), which make me look pulled together for a Zoom call and motivate me to exercise. If you’re in my area and are interested in concierge shopping through Fleet Feet (including a 30% off discount!), I’m happy to share more.
Basic Makeup – All this time at home has definitely helped me to shorten my “get ready” routine. It used to take me an embarrassing 20 to 30 minutes to put on makeup. With all of that time, you’d think I’d look like Charlotte Tilbury herself had helped me with a perfectly blended, contoured and glowy look. While there’s no real reason to go through the standard routine, putting on some basic makeup does make the day seem a little more normal and gives a lift to my spirit. Basic makeup for me includes either a tinted moisturizer or CC cream, concealer, mascara, blush and lip gloss or tint. I’ll share a full post later on what specific products have been my go-to’s for this season.
These four things are currently making up my Quarantine Thrivival Kit. What’s missing? And I’d love to know the four or five things helping you to thrive during quarantine. Share in the comments below!

I need to know more about that app you’re using and that Glotion. House slippers are a definite must. Other than I exercise I barely wear anything other than slippers…which is good because my toenails are a situation.
