On the last Wednesday of the month, I’m linking up with two of my favorite lifestyle bloggers, Shay and Sheaffer, for What’s Up Wednesday. It’s a mix of what we’ve been eating, doing, wearing, watching and more.
what we’re eating this week
Over Memorial Day weekend we picked up a couple of varieties of chicken salad from Chicken Salad Chick. I could literally eat their chicken salad everyday. Eating chicken salad levels up my Southern raising and made me crave pimento cheese. So I added some Palmetto Pimento Cheese to my grocery order. Though it’s not the healthiest, we’ll be snacking on this creamy, delicious dip with crackers this week.
what I’m reminiscing about
My son is a freshman. I can’t even. How did we get here? It feels like kindergarten was just a couple of years ago. With all of the weird times we’re going through, the actual “last day of school” snuck up on me and I wasn’t prepared to celebrate his graduation. 🤦🏼♀️ #momfail But, we’re going to have a delayed celebration of the end of middle school and the start of new educational era.
what I’m loving
For the first part of sheltering at home, reading was not on my list of things to do. I just wanted to binge shows. Towards the end of April, though, my desire to read returned and over Memorial Day weekend I finished two books and started a third. I’m currently reading In Cold Blood. What should I read in June?
what we’ve been up to
Lots and lots of walking. Getting outside has been integral while being at home more. Pretty much every day you’ll find me and/or us outside for a walk. Sometimes it’s two walks a day. The neighborhood has both flat and hilly areas, tree-lined streets when you need shade, and a good breeze on at least one side during every walk. It’s been really sweet to see all of the new puppies who have joined our neighborhood in the past couple of months. I am in complete puppy love with Frankie at the end of our street. 🐶😍
what I’m dreading
A summer with no plans. It’s the oddest feeling to look at the summer calendar and literally see nothing other than birthdays or anniversaries on it. It’s usually full of camps, weekend plans and trips. I’m sure I’ll be scouring the Internet for ideas of things to do, but I’m currently dreading this blank calendar.
what I’m working on
In May my good friend, Cherie, and I launched a podcast – “Things We Know.” It’s a half hour or so of us sharing our thoughts and opinions on a variety of things, like books, TV shows, food and more. We’re batch recording episodes this weekend so I’m working on notes for that. We’d love for you to give us a listen. You can find “Things We Know” on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts.
what I’m excited about
While I just lamented about having no summer plans, I am excited for pools to reopen. Even though I rarely get in the pool, there’s just something so relaxing to be by the water. It’s my favorite place to read all summer.
what I’m watching/reading
My boyfriend loves Two and a Half Men. I used-to think it was the dumbest show, but somehow during our shelter-at-home time, I have come to adore this show. I don’t know if it’s because Jon Cryer is such a good actor, the witty one-liners or the fact that it’s mindless, but I love it. Granted, the humor can be a bit rough at times, but it is the show I’m binging at some point every day.
what I’m listening to
In my podcast library, you’ll find more true crime shows than anything else. I tend to rotate between favorites and right now it’s all about True Crime Obsessed. TCO is a true crime comedy podcast, which sounds a little odd, but believe me it works. Maybe it’s because the goofiness and fun of it lighten my spirit, but this is my go-to listen every week. I’m even a Patreon supporter for this show hosted by Patrick Hinds and Gillian Pensavalle.
what I’m wearing
These denim shorts from Nordstrom. I love, love, love them. I actually own them in two different sizes. 😮 One pair are my actual size and fit me true-to-size. The other pair is a size up and super comfy for when I want them a little more loose. I bought them both on sale, so if you don’t want to pay full price, they’re almost always included in any Nordstrom sale.
what I’m doing this weekend
As I shared in the What I’m Working On section, this weekend Cherie and I will be recording two episodes of our podcast. When we recorded our original three episodes we were able to meet in person. Now, we’re socially distancing and using Zoom to record. It works fine, but I’m really looking forward to being able to see her smiling face in person to record.
what I’m looking forward to next month
Clearly I had no idea this pandemic was coming when I last got my hair done, but somehow I managed to get in right before everything shut down. My hair has been really good over all these long weeks and I’ve tried to reduce putting much heat on it in order to keep it healthy until I could return to my stylist. I have an appointment next week and I, and my roots, are definitely ready!

I’ve never listened to true crime podcasts, but I do think I’d love this one.
A summer with no plans is indeed rather dreadful. I like to find comfort in the thought that everyone faces it.

You’re so right…we are all facing this together. That does make it a little easier to get through.

I’m dreading our plan-less summer too. We don’t know yet if our pool will be able to open and if it doesn’t, I will definitely miss not being able to read by the pool. Here’s hoping we can continue with some normal summer activities this year.

Our pool just opened before Memorial Day. But it’s small so grabbing a spot is tough. Reading by the pool is one of my favorites, too!
