June was all about continuing book series, save one title. It happened to be the only one that didn’t involve a mystery.
Also, I have given up on Spare. 😳
The Kept Woman, The Last Widow and The Silent Wife (Will Trent Series), Karin Slaughter ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ , ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2, and ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Books eight, nine and ten from the Will Trent series continued to give me the reader strong storylines and make my mental muscles work to unravel the mysteries at hand. The books’ storylines go from the not-so-shiny side of a professional athlete to an abducted scientist from the Centers for Disease Control and a compound to Will finally having the chance to investigate a serial killer. Book 10, The Silent Wife, has been my favorite so far. I give four stars to The Kept Woman and The Silent Wife, with three and a half to The Last Widow. These make an excellent BORROW or BUY.
The Man Who Died Twice & The Bullet That Missed (Thursday Murder Club) Richard Osman ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I continue to be just completely enchanted with Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim at Cooper’s Chase. This foursome manages to find themselves in the middle of espionage and solving a cold case, all from their retirement village. The dialogue and character development are both some of the best I’ve seen in a series in a while. Each of these books is four stars for me, and both are a BUY! The fourth title in the series drops in September.
Romantic Comedy, Curtis Sittenfeld ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ½
Sally Milz loves her job as a sketch writer for The Night Owls (think a spin on Saturday Night Live). One of her sketches revolves around her firm belief that a talented, average-looking man can date a beautiful, smart woman…but maybe that principle doesn’t work in reverse. When major celebrity and pop star Noah Brewster doubles as show host and musical guest, Sally senses a connection between them, but because of her principle, believes it can’t be true. The novel carries you through the behind-the-scenes of working on a late-night sketch series, the building of a relationship between Sally and Noah, and Sally’s struggle with believing she’s enough. The book is cute and fun read, but I did have difficulty connecting to the characters. I’d say this is a BORROW.
I promise for July there won’t be quite as many thriller or mystery books. In fact, I’m reading the cutest rom-com now, as well as a beloved author’s beach read.
