Nike has the slogan: “Just do it.” And then of course there’s the selfie. Just a couple of examples of how much the world encourages us to put the emphasis on ourselves.
Not that “just doing it” is always a bad thing. And goodness knows you’ll find a selfie or an usie on my phone (Like my fave of me and Kate Walsh!). There’s just so much “it’s all about you”.
As I began to think about 2015, what it could hold and what I would want to accomplish, I decided to focus my resolutions and goals around one thing: 2015 will be the Year of I.
First, I want to live a life full of Integrity. How does this play out for me? I make no concessions about my faith, so first and foremost I want to walk in obedience to Jesus. Whenever I am at a crossroads or unsure of the next step, I want to always just do the next right thing. One of my favorite verses (which is written on my bathroom mirror) is Psalm 84:11: “No good thing will God withhold from those who walk with integrity.”
Next, I will be Intentional. I will be present and attentive in the moment. I will put my phone away more. I will focus on those who I am with. I will live intently with purpose in all areas. When an opportunity arises – whether professional, personal, recreational or whatever – I will ask myself if it aligns with my purpose. I will be intentional about what I’m doing and who I’m doing it with. The intention will push my discipline (because something needs to!) to stay on track with my following of Christ, my health, family and friends.
Finally, I want to be inspiring. In living with purpose, I hope I am able to inspire others. Whether it’s with a blog post, my passion for wellness and health (and PiYo!), sharing a super yum recipe or just being a friend, I want to give into the lives of others more than into the life of me.
So there it is…my Year of I. What are you hoping for in 2015? How can I encourage you towards that purpose, goal or resolution?
